The most common cause of dry mouth is use of medications.

However there are other causes of dry mouth. In addition to the oral discomfort and inconvenience it can cause to patients, a dry mouth also increases the risk for dental decay.

Dr. Nita Chainani-Wu has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of dry mouth. Treatment of the symptoms and signs is by use of topical and systemic medications, including fluoride and sialogogues. She has also conducted original research studies on dry mouth (xerostomia).
