Providing Patient Care In The San Francisco
Bay Area Since 1996
Mucous membrane pemphigoid is an autoimmune condition which can cause blistering and ulceration on the oral mucosa and can significantly affect quality of life. Some cases can affect the eyes and cause scarring. Early diagnosis is important. Definitive diagnosis is by biopsy with routine histopathological examination of the specimen and if needed direct immunofloresence testing of the tissue specimens.
Dr. Nita Chainani-Wu has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of mucous membrane pemphigoid. Management involves a team approach with the patient’s ophthalmologist and other health care providers. Treatment of the oral symptoms is by use of topical and systemic medications.
